Museums for Watercolors - Columbus, OH - Cutler Real Estate

No other artistic medium can match the delicate beauty of watercolors. July is Watercolor Month, so what better time to take a closer look at this refined art form? This month, visit these places in Columbus to see some of the most dazzling watercolor pieces made by American artists. You might even get the chance to improve your own watercolor painting skills while you're at it.

Columbus College of Art and Design

60 Cleveland Ave., Columbus, OH 43215

The Columbus College of Art and Design is one of the most well-regarded private schools for art and design in the country. In addition to its top-class art instruction, the college also maintains several display spaces to showcase its students' work.

Watercolors are a favorite medium among students here, and you'll see many of their works displayed in the school's sprawling galleries. Displays are changed often, so be sure to check back later in the month if you want to see some fresh examples. You may also be able to hone your skills with the medium at the college's Saturday morning art classes, weekly events that are open to all adults in the community. Stop by and see what you can learn!

Cultural Arts Center

139 W. Main St., Columbus, OH 43215

Columbus' Cultural Arts Center offers residents the chance to explore new artistic horizons right here in their hometown. The center's many exhibitions and displays always includes some watercolor works, many of which are done by local artists who you may meet during your time in the building.

Some of the center's painting classes cover watercolor techniques as well, and many are open to beginners. If you've always wanted to try your hand at creating a masterpiece in this medium, now is your chance. Impress the center's curators, and your work might even end up being displayed in the on-site Loft Gallery!

Ohio State University Urban Arts Space

50 W. Town St., Suite 130, Columbus, OH 43210

Ohio State University also houses the Ohio State University Urban Arts Space, a more contemporary gallery featuring special exhibitions from students and prominent members of the community. During a single visit, you might see anything from pottery to performance art.

Watercolors are less prominent here, but they can still be found among the exhibited works. The space's displays are also rotated frequently, so check back often to catch sight of new and exciting works.

Columbus Museum of Art

480 E. Broad St., Columbus, OH 43215

The Columbus Museum of Art is one of the biggest and most reputable museums in Ohio. The museum's permanent collection features several pieces by members of the Columbus Watercolor Society, a group of local artists who are masters of this tricky medium.

You can find more work from many of these watercolor artists in some of the cities surrounding Columbus, making this a must-see stop if you want to continue exploring the world of watercolors beyond the city limits. The museum's staff are also extremely knowledgeable and can help you find the pieces you're looking for if you have trouble finding your way through the building.

Billy Ireland Cartoon Library and Museum

1813 N. High St., Columbus, OH 43210

The Billy Ireland Cartoon Library and Museum is part of the Ohio State University Libraries. Since the university is a public institution, anyone can visit this place and explore their massive collection of comics and cartoon-style art.

The library's collection includes many pieces done in watercolors, a common medium for illustrations and other simplified graphics. It's the perfect place to scope out some pieces that diverge from the usual flowers and landscapes that are often depicted in this medium. Many of the pieces in the library's collection have also been digitized, so you can easily continue exploring their works from the comfort of your home if you run out of time during your trip.

Studios on High Gallery

686 N. High St., Columbus, OH 43215

The Studios on High Gallery is Columbus's oldest artist-owned and operated art gallery. One of its proprietors is Antonio Gonzalez Garcia, a master watercolor painter whose works cover a diverse range of subjects including landscapes, animals, and even people. You can view his works anytime at the gallery to get a better sense of how versatile this medium can be.

If you want to learn some of the techniques that make Garcia's approach so special, you can also attend his Saturday classes. These sessions give you the chance to learn directly from the artist himself and help you take your skills to the next level.

Keny Galleries

300 E. Beck St., Columbus, OH 43206

Located in a quiet part of Columbus' German Village, the Keny Galleries offer a tranquil experience that perfectly suits the serene aesthetic of watercolors. Fittingly, this medium is a major focus of the galleries' exhibition and curation efforts.

The Keny Galleries have exclusive rights to the estate of Alice Schille, one of Ohio's most well-known and masterful watercolor painters. Dozens of Schille's works are available to view in the galleries' permanent collection, as well as the works of other prominent watercolor artists like John Singer Sargent and Childe Hassan. Prints of some of these works are also available for purchase, allowing you to take home a memento of the beauty you've experienced.

Summer Farmers Markets - Explore Ohio - Cutler Real Estate

Farmers markets are the ideal destinations to buy local produce since what you're purchasing is typically grown nearby, and by the person you're buying it from. Not only will you be getting fresh, healthy food, but you'll also be supporting local farmers and vendors.

Many farmers markets have branched out to also feature live music and activities like cooking demonstrations to further their appeal. In fact, in addition to being local food destinations, they've also become places for the community to gather.

Check out the following nine places to stock up on local produce in Northeast Ohio, Columbus, and Cincinnati.

Frostville Farmers' Market

24101 Cedar Point Rd., North Olmsted, OH 44070

You'll find plenty of fresh, local food and handmade goods at Frostville Farmers' Market, located on the grounds of the Frostville Museum. All foods and goods come from within 75 miles of the market, so you know you're supporting local farmers and makers when you shop there. The market has become a destination for families, with music, children's activities, games, cooking demonstrations, and fun happenings such as a visit from a local farm's alpacas. Visit the market from 9 a.m.-1 p.m. through November and then from 10 a.m.-1 p.m. from November through April.

Crocker Park Market

1800 Crocker Rd., Westlake, OH 44145

Crocker Park Market is in a new location—on the corner of Crocker and Detroit Roads in front of Fidelity Investments—but it still provides the fresh items Northeast Ohio residents love to shop for. You'll find fresh produce, meats, dairy, baked goods, and more at the market, open from 9 a.m.-1 p.m. every Sunday from April until mid-December. Local musicians are also sometimes featured.

Cleveland Clinic Main Campus Market

Cleveland Clinic Campus, across the street from the Crile Building, 2039 E. 100th St., Cleveland, OH 44106

Going into its 14th year, the Cleveland Clinic farmers market offers goods from over 35 local farmers and producers each week. In addition to buying local food and products, you can listen to live music, watch cooking demonstrations, score free samples, and learn more about your health. Unlike many markets, the Cleveland Clinic market is open during the week rather than on the weekend, with hours from 10:30 a.m.-1:30 p.m. on Wednesdays from June until mid-October.

Markets at Pearl

North Pearl and West Gay Streets, Columbus, OH 43215

Located in downtown Columbus, Markets at Pearl combines three separate markets under one umbrella. Pearl Market dates back to 1992 and is open every Tuesday and Friday from 10:30-2 p.m. from May 20-October. Visit the market to shop for farm-fresh fruits and vegetables, check out artisanal goods, and get some lunch. Sunlight Market is held every third Sunday until December, drawing visitors downtown to shop from pop-up vendors and enjoy music. Moonlight Market is held every second Saturday from April-October.

Franklin Park Conservatory Farmers' Market

Wells Barn parking lot at Franklin Park Conservatory 1777 E. Broad St., Columbus, OH 43203

You'll find plenty you'll want to buy at the Franklin Park Conservatory Farmers' Market, including local produce, baked goods, specialty foods, handmade items, and health and beauty products. Each week brings vendors, live music, food trucks, and special giveaways and activities like a free tote bag or the chance to talk with master gardeners.

Westgate Farmers Market

2925 W. Broad St., Columbus, OH 43204

Shop for fresh produce, handcrafted goods, gourmet pet treats, baked goods, and more at Westgate Farmers' Market, where everything sold is produced by the vendor. You can enjoy live music while you browse, and food trucks are also onsite if you'd like to grab a meal to enjoy at the market or take home. Visit the market from 9 a.m.-noon on the first and third Saturdays June-October.

Northside Farmers Market

4222 Hamilton Ave., Cincinnati, OH 45223

You'll be able to shop year-round at Northside Farmers Market, which provides items produced within 70 miles. In addition to fresh produce, meats, eggs, and bread, you can shop for items like handmade body products and prepared foods at the market. It's become a place for neighbors to gather and kids to learn how to cook. The market is open from 4-7 p.m. April-November and 4-6 p.m. December to March.

Hyde Park Farmers Market

2700 Erie Ave., Cincinnati, OH 45208

You'll find a wide variety of local foods and other items from growers at the Hyde Park Farmers Market, including veggies, fruits, meats, eggs, garden plants, and more. Rare heirloom veggie varieties and heritage breed meats are also sold, and the market's vendors employ regenerative and humane practices. Although the wholesome food is the main attraction, live music helps make the market a popular gathering spot. The market is open Sundays from 9:30 a.m.-1 p.m. May-October.

Sayler Park Farmer's Market

6600 Gracely Dr., Cincinnati, OH 45233

You'll find plenty of local vendors selling everything from fresh produce and honey to candles and home and garden decor at the Sayler Park Farmer's Market. Live music will entertain you while you shop from producers including Two Amigos Salsa, PAWsome Puppy Treats, Sayler Park Coffee, Hippie Pop Kettle Corn, and more. The market is open 4-7 p.m. every Tuesday June-August.
