Museum of Contemporary Art Cleveland

The ever-changing Museum of Contemporary Art Cleveland has a history of developing the city's cultural landscape. It was one of the first museums in the area to display works from artists like Andy Warhol, and they continue to feature innovative works from emerging artists. MoCa Cleveland reopened in October and invites visitors to gaze at their current exhibits from artists Nina Katchadourian, Paul Ramirez Jonas, Martin Creed, and Margaret Kilgallen.

The Cleveland Museum of Art was founded over a century ago for the "benefit of all the people forever." ARTneo, The Museum of Northeast Ohio Art

Those who love art but wish to appreciate regional work rather than globally curated collections should head to ARTneo, the Museum of Northeast Ohio Art. If you can't find an appointment that works for you, consider heading to their free open house event at 78th Street Studios on Friday, November 20th. These Third Friday events have been voted the Best Arts Event in Cleveland.

The Columbus Museum of Art is open and ready to welcome art lovers back. Among their many wonderful pieces, they host the world's largest collection of artworks from local artists, including George Bellows and Aminah Brenda Lynn Robinson. Spend hours browsing their permanent collection and latest exhibitions or take part in one of their creative events in-person or online. The Wexner Center for the Arts is an on-campus laboratory for advancing contemporary art. Cincinnati Art Museum

It's home to some of the city's best attractions, including the Cincinnati Art Museum, which boasts nearly 70,000 pieces from across 6,000 years. One of November's featured exhibits is Women Breaking Boundaries, which showcases works from the museum's permanent collection completed by female artists. Via Vecchia calls itself an industrial-chic event center and urban winery. This 6,000-square-foot venue in downtown Columbus allows you to escape the busy city without actually leaving, as the property is equipped with a beautiful mezzanine, covered veranda, large patio, and private courtyard. While it's often used as a wedding venue, the winery itself is open by appointment. Vecchia's fine wines are made from traditional Tuscan techniques using certified organic grapes imported from California. All wines are vegan, keto, and paleo diet-friendly as well as gluten-free.
Wyandotte Winery

Wyandotte Winery calls itself the first and oldest winery in Columbus. Here, you can try new wines in a casual "no snob" environment. Located on a neighborhood street near Blendon Woods Park, this winery has a bar, a tasting room, and a wine shop, and all wine is made onsite. The property has a beautiful outdoor patio that is open when the weather cooperates. While they don't have a food menu, the owners will occasionally host a multi-course dinner with wine pairings. The winery is open Thursday - Saturday. Also, if you're traveling toward the Lancaster Ohio area, be sure to check out Rockside Winery and Vineyards, which is Wyandotte's sister winery.

Cooper's Hawk's wines have won hundreds of awards and are made with grapes from Chile, France, California, and Washington. Each wine is handcrafted and nurtured "according to its individual needs." With an onsite tasting room and a full dinner menu, Cooper's Hawk is the perfect place for a relaxing night out. Dining is described as modern casual, and they also offer a retail store so you can grab a bottle to take home. The restaurant and tasting rooms are open Monday - Sunday from 11 a.m. to 9 p.m.
Good Vibes Winery

Located north of Columbus in Westerville, Good Vibes Winery brands itself as an urban winery that brings the traditional "wine region" experience to central Ohio. Each of the 20+ wines is named after classic hits and is made in Westerville using grapes from award-winning vineyards from all around the world. With a beautiful tasting room, Good Vibes Winery is a great place to relax. They also have special events throughout the year, so be sure to keep an eye on their calendar. While they don't offer a full menu, they do have a handful of small plates and snacks. Wines are also available for carryout. Hours may vary, but they're generally open Wednesdays through Saturdays.
Slate Run Vineyard

If you're south of Columbus, head over to Slate Run Vineyard. Named for a nearby creek, Slate Run has over sample 17 proprietary wines available to sample, each one made with grapes from their beautiful vineyard. Using 100% Ohio Fruit, Slate Run makes wines that go beyond simple fruit character. Since they're located about 19 miles southeast of Columbus, they're actually 200 feet higher in elevation which creates a unique mixture of soils and microclimate. In addition to a beautiful vineyard, Slate Run also has a 2,400-square-foot Winehaus that is perfect for private parties or special events. Don't feel like making the drive? Slate Run also ships wine anywhere in Ohio. Slate Run is open Mondays - Saturdays from 1 p.m to 7 p.m.
Soine Vineyards Winery

This beautiful winery vineyard sits on about 6 acres of land about 4 miles north of Columbus. Ten cultivars of grapes are grown within the vineyard and are used to produce a variety of locally-produced red, white, and blush wines. In case you're hungry, they offer a small menu of appetizers and pizza. They often have live music and special events on the weekends, so if you're looking to a quick way to escape the busy city, head to Soine Vineyard where you can sip wine while relaxing on their beautiful property. The winery is opened Fridays from 4 to 8 p.m. and Saturdays from 2 to 8 p.m.
Blend of Seven Winery

This cozy winery located north of Columbus features a tasting room, event space, and outdoor seating. They also host live music, chili cook-offs, and other special events throughout the year. Each of their unique wines is crafted on-site using grapes from all around the world, and the owners are often available to provide food pairing tips and recommendations. If you get hungry, a small menu of appetizers, pizza, and sandwiches is available. Wines are available by tasting, glass, bottle, or carryout bottle. The winery is closed on Sundays and Mondays.

How to Support Columbus Organizations With Mask Donations
COVID-19, typically referred to as the coronavirus, has impacted every aspect of our daily lives. Social distancing and quarantine-appropriate behavior have forced many of us to work, study, and spend all of our free time at home. Even with plans to begin re-opening the state in May, the CDC is still encouraging all individuals to wear protective masks when in public. Our healthcare workers, emergency personnel, and other essential workers have an even greater need for personal protective equipment (PPE).
At Cutler Real Estate, we consider the health and wellbeing of our family members, friends, and neighbors throughout the community to be a top priority. In these unprecedented times, we must come together and do our part to reduce the risk of spreading the coronavirus around Columbus. By making, wearing, and donating homemade masks, we can decrease our chances of spreading or contracting this virus.
The Importance of Masks in Fighting COVID-19
The coronavirus is a microscopic virus that is small enough to pass through nearly all facial coverings. However, when someone infected sneezes or coughs, the virus attaches itself to water molecules before leaving the body. Facial coverings made of nearly any fabric can effectively contain these water molecules, essentially providing a significant element of protection that everyone has immediate access to.
The masks that are most effective at preventing the spread of coronavirus are N95 surgical and procedure masks, which are typically used in healthcare settings. Although these forms of PPE are available for the public to purchase, government officials are asking that these masks only be reserved for healthcare workers who are constantly at risk of coming in contact with infected individuals. However, all other non-medical individuals can create homemade face masks to wear or donate to others in need.
How to Make a Homemade Mask Without a Sewing Machine
For a quick and easy no-sew way to make an effective mask using materials in your home, refer to these instructions provided by the Center for Disease Control.
Steps for a Bandana Face Mask
- Fold a square bandana in half.
- Fold the top down to the center and the bottom up to the center.
- Feed the folded bandana through two rubber bands or hair ties.
- Fold the ends of the bandana to the middle and tuck them into the bands.
- Place the mask across your mouth and hook the bands around your ears.
Steps for a T-Shirt Face Mask
- Cut across the stomach of a t-shirt roughly 7-8 inches from the bottom.
- Cut a rectangle out horizontally in the center of the shirt about 6-7 inches in.
- Cut the edges of the open side to make tie strings.
- Tie one of the tie strings around your neck and the other around the top of your head so that the cloth covers your nose and mouth.
How to Sew a Homemade Mask
If you're interested in sewing your own mask, the CDC also offers guidelines. For this task, you'll need a sewing machine, scissors, a needle and thread, two pieces of elastic-like rubber bands or hair ties, and two pieces of cotton fabric measuring 10"x6".
- Cut the 10"x6" fabric pieces out of a large cloth such as bed sheets or blankets.
- Place them together and fold over the long sides ¼" then hem. Fold the fabric over ½" over the shorter sides and stitch them down.
- Thread the elastic through the openings on the wide side and tie each side in a knot to create ear holes.
- Place the mask over your nose and mouth, adjusting as needed.
Keep these tips in mind when using homemade cloth masks:
- The mask should fit snuggly without restricting your breathing.
- They should be made of multiple layers of fabric.
- They can be washed and dried in the washing machine and dryer without incurring damage.

Alum Creek Trail

A favorite multi-use trail that stretches roughly 25 miles across Franklin County, the Alum Creek Trail offers a well-maintained hard surface for hikers and cyclists. The trail follows the picturesque Columbus river corridor, from Westerville to Three Creeks Park, passing through several parks and neighborhoods along the way. Construction on the trail was completed in 2015, and the Alum Creek Trail has quickly become the go-to destination for Columbus residents looking to get outside.

The Olentangy Trail is a great place to go for a bike ride, but for many first-time visitors to Columbus, its central location makes it one of the most popular ways to explore the city on foot. The trail connects the community of Worthington to downtown Columbus, meandering through several neighborhoods along the banks of the Olentangy River. Along the way, the Olentangy Trail passes through the Ohio State University campus, with trailheads at Whetstone Park as well as several other major city parks.

The first greenway ever built in Columbus, the Scioto Trail has been a treasured resource for hikers and cyclists in the city since 1976. It's still a favorite local bike path, with sections on either side of the Scioto River, including the downtown riverfront, where you can get a great view of the Columbus skyline. The most well-known section of the path is the Scioto Mile, which includes a string of prominent parks, promenades, and landmarks. Near the south edge of Downtown Columbus, the trail traverses the beautiful Scioto Audubon Park, including a trailhead at the Audubon Nature Center. The Scioto Trail also directly connects to the Olentangy Trail.
Heritage Trail

Following an old abandoned rail line from Old Hilliard to Cemetery Pike, the Heritage Trail one of the less-used bike paths in the Columbus area. That makes it a great place to beat the crowds, although the Heritage Dog Park at one end of the trail does make it a popular spot for dog walking. Paved, well maintained, and easy to follow, it's a great place for an afternoon bike ride, passing through about 7 miles of fields and farmlands just outside Columbus.

Running parallel to its namesake creek for most of its 18-mile length, the Blacklick Creek Greenway stretches from Reynoldsburg to Groveport on the southeastern edge of Columbus. There are several parks and trails in the Columbus area where you can hop on the Blacklick Creek Greenway, but a favorite spot is Three Creeks Metro Park. This park marks the spot where the Alum, Big Walnut, and Blacklick creeks join; and it's also home to sections of both the Blacklick Creek Greenway and the Alum Creek Greenway.

While many of Columbus' bike paths are great for easy rambles along relatively flat, paved trailways, the mountain bike trail at Chestnut Ridge Metro Park offers something a little more extreme. Just a few miles southeast of Columbus, Chestnut Ridge is actually the first ridge of the Appalachian Mountains, and the Chestnut Ridge Mountain Bike Trail is a great place for an intense mountain biking experience. The trail runs a little over 9 miles through deep woods, with many steep climbs and descents, along with a few bridges and some steep, banked turns. The trail is divided into two loops, one for beginner to intermediate mountain bikers, and the other for experienced cyclists only.
Big Walnut Trail

The Big Walnut Trail stretches a little over 10 miles through several Columbus area parks, including Inniswood Metro Gardens, a lovely botanical garden and nature preserve that's open free of charge seven days a week to the general public. Popular for jogging and dog walking as well as biking, the Big Walnut Trail is a paved multi-use trail that also offers expansive views of Hoover Reservoir and the parks along the lakeshore.
Camp Chase Trail

Just over 16 miles long, the Camp Chase trail runs between the cities of London and Columbus, acting as a connector between Madison and Franklin counties. The trail is relatively level and easy for biking, consisting of paved double-track that follows the course of a railroad line. In addition to being a great biking spot for Columbus residents, the Camp Chase Trail is also a crucial link in the much longer Ohio to Erie Trail, which stretches 326 miles across the state of Ohio from southwest to northeast.
