In our opinion, there's nothing better than escaping into a really good book, or for that matter, into a really good bookshop. We can't think of a better way to spend a morning than wandering through endless rows of books, no matter the genre. Luckily for us, Northeast Ohio just happens to be home to some of the best bookstores in the country! We've curated a list of the best, all of which have incredible staff members that will be able to point you in the direction of your new favorite novel. So grab your fellow bookworms and hit the road, because your weekend is all booked.

Loganberry Books

Loganberry Books was established in November of 1994 by Harriett Logan. Today, they offer a wide selection of over 100,000 books. You can purchase new, used and rare children's and illustrated books, women's history and literature, leatherbound and modern first editions, and popular fiction books. You can find this adorable shop on the border of Shaker Heights and Cleveland — just look for the massive book mural on the side of the building!

Mac's Backs — Books on Coventry

1820 Coventry Road, Cleveland Heights With over three floors of new and used books and magazines, Mac's Backs is pretty much a book lover's paradise! They offer a huge selection of classics, mysteries, science fiction, contemporary fiction, non-fiction and more. You can even book their free meeting space for your book club or any other organization.

Visible Voice Books

2258 Professor Avenue, Cleveland Whether you have a specific book in mind or are just looking to get lost in a sea of pages, Visible Voice Books is the perfect spot for you. Not only do they offer a curated selection of new and secondhand books, magazines, journals and literary gifts, you can also stop into their popular cafe and grab some coffee, tea, or even beer and wine!

Fireside Book Shop

29 North Franklin Street, Chagrin Falls Bookstores in Cleveland

Before it was a cozy bookstore, Fireside Book Shop was an auto supply store with an apartment above. After being purchased in 1968, the shop underwent major renovations to become the quaint store we know and love. It may be the incredible selection of new and used books that attract you to Fireside, but it will be the adorable resident Icelandic Sheepdog, Zolla, who keeps you coming back.

MindFair

13 West College Street, Oberlin Located inside of the historic, independent store Ben Franklin, this lovely shop is surrounded by everything from health and beauty products to yarn, houseplants and office supplies. MindFair offers both new and used books in all genres at great prices in a fantastic atmosphere. You can browse their current collection online, but nothing beats a day of in-person book perusing!   

Appletree Books

12419 Cedar Road, Cleveland Heights Established in 1975, Appletree Books offers an eclectic, well-curated selection of new book titles in multiple genres for both children and adults. Along with finding a new favorite book, here you can also pick up locally made greeting cards, journals, letterpress cards, puzzles, bookends, candles and more!

Akron Area

The Bookseller

39 Westgate Circle, Akron If you're interested in expanding your knowledge on our amazing home region, stop by The Bookseller! While they sell hundreds of books from all disciplines and genres, they specialize in aviation, the rubber industry, and other books relating to Northeast Ohio.

The Book Store and Handmade Marketplace

109 West Washington Street, Medina Bookstores in Akron

Not only does The Book Store sell high quality new and used books, but they are also home to over 1,000 handmade products from talented local artisans. From chocolates and literary-themed teas to original jewelry and crocheted products — you'll find an amazing item made by a member of the community! Or, if you are a budding writer, Hadleigh Rae Publishing is located in-house and has everything you need to go from an aspiring author to a published one.

The Bookshelf

831 Pearl Road, Brunswick | 105 West Liberty Street, Medina | 130 Main Street, Wadsworth Project: LEARN is a nonprofit organization that was founded in 1983 and helps provide literacy assistance to individuals in Medina County by offering tutoring to adults in reading, math and English as a Second Language. To help fund the program, they opened three used bookstores around the community. These stores are located in Brunswick, Medina and Wadsworth and each offers a unique selection of gently used books. When you shop at The Bookshelf, not only are you getting a great deal on books, you're supporting a good cause!

Last Exit Books

124 East Main Street, Kent Bookstores in Akron Last Exit Books is the perfect place to sit back and relax. In the front of the store, grab a delicious cup of locally roasted coffee and locally baked goods. In the back, check out their huge selection of books, DVDs, Blu-Rays, CDs and records.

Learned Owl Book Shop

204 North Main Street, Hudson For almost 50 years, the Learned Owl Book Shop has been a Hudson staple. With three floors of books for all ages and interests — from classic picture books to travel guides and New York Times bestsellers — you're sure to find the perfect book. If they happen to not have the book you're looking for, they can order it and even offer an out-of-print book search service for, especially hard-to-find books. And, for ebook lovers, you can purchase digital copies through Kobo all while supporting a local, independent business!

Canton Area

This cozy shop is perfect for just hanging out. With comfy chairs to relax in, a fantastic selection of great books in any genre imaginable and adorable dog sightings, you won't ever want to leave!

Dorrie's Booktique

5551 Fulton Road, Canton Dorrie's may be a locally owned, independent shop, but their large, diverse inventory of books could rival chain stores. They sell both new and used books at unbeatable prices, as well as gifts and bookish merchandise.
